The Final Fantasy franchise has now sold over a staggering 180 million units worldwide, Square Enix announced as part of its reveal of a musical theatre show.

Since its first release in 1987, the legendary role-playing game “FINAL FANTASY” series boasts over 180 million shipments and downloads worldwide. With its beautiful graphics, unique world view, and rich storytelling, it has fascinated people not only in Japan but around the world, and has developed a variety of media mixes beyond the boundaries of games, such as TV dramas, movies, and Kabuki.
Square Enix revealed during its latest shareholders meeting that it is now ‘considering‘ remasters of older titles due to the success of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series. Elsewhere, Yoshinori Kitase revealed that staff at Square Enix are constantly asking about a Final Fantasy 6 Remake, but he can’t consider it until work on the Final Fantasy VII Remake project is wrapped.
